First Kings chapter 11, verse 4. For when Solomon Solomon was old his wives turned away his heart after other gods

I want to encourage you to listen very closely today to this language.

Because when we read about Solomon and his many wives, we might just immediately check out and say,

well, I don't have many wives or I don't have many husbands.

This doesn't apply to me.

But listen to the language.

When Solomon was old, his wives turned away his heart after other gods.

And I just want to camp out on that phrase, turned away his heart in such a way that

verse goes on to say his heart was not wholly true to the Lord His God.

So I just want to encourage you, and me,

I'm doing this with you, to ask today, what in our lives is turning away our hearts in any way from God? Is there anything in our lives that is turning our hearts away from God?

Just let that language soak in. We want to fill our lives with that which turns our hearts

to God, not away from God.

And that means examining anything that is not fueling affection for God.
