Detention Facility was the closure of the prison, the end of the detainee's

alleged abuse at Gitmo, the end of them being imprisoned at Guantanamo.

Four months after the attacks of 9-11, the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp opened on January 11, 2002. This year marks its 21st year in operation, meaning that nobody

under 21 years old has known a world where the military of the United States of America

did not operate an offshore prison that has been condemned since its very opening by

organizations like Amnesty International Human Rights Watch, the Red Cross, the European

Union, and the Organization of American States over its indefinite detention of prisoners without trial, alleged

Geneva Conventions and Human Rights of violations, including torture.

The Center for Constitutional Rights also condemned what came to be known as Gitmo for violating the Due Process Clause of the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments of the United States Constitution.

Since its very beginning, the facility has been understood by law scholars within the

United States as unconstitutional and globally as inhumane and an offense to human rights norms.

Despite every president vowing to close it since its opening
