Summary

Computers and electronic devices brought countless advantages to the world, making human life easier in a lot of ways. A big part of the modern world was built by people seated behind a desk facing a monitor, and most jobs nowadays require long hours sitting in front of a screen. In addition to this established work style, the society of the spectacle we live in requires a passive attitude from the audience, comfortably seated on a couch. The negative side of a comfortable and entertaining life is sedentarism, eating disorders, poorly shaped bodies, and tons of magical recipes to lose weight. But the answer is not in miraculous techniques but in modifying our lifestyle, reframing the kind of people we want to be.

In this episode, I had a wonderful conversation with Nate Palmer, Trainer, Public Speaker, Fat Loss Ninja, and author of two published books, Passport Fitness, and The Million Dollar Body Method. We talked about the reasons why people find it hard to lose weight and to get in shape. He shared his unique perspective on tackling this from a different angle, reframing who we are. He kindly shared his top three tips for starting significant change and his viewpoint about carbohydrate consumption.

After a violent episode in his childhood, Nate embarked on a body transformation journey seeking muscles to feel more powerful. Surprisingly for him, what he found at the end of that path was a different result, confidence, self-esteem, and general positivity. He realized then the positive impact of committing to a goal and staying on course.

Some Questions I Ask:

  • Can you tell us a bit of your journey to get to be who you are? (3:00)
  • What would you tell somebody wanting to start making some changes and don't know where to start? (6:23)
  • Can you give us a few basic things for somebody who wants to commit to making that change? (11:10)
  • Can you give us a short course on what carbohydrates are? (16:04)
  • Speaking about alcohol and coffee, could you explain how something liquid cannot add hydration to your body? (22:07)

In This Episode, You Will Learn:

  • The easier way of building self-esteem (05:08)
  • Walking is one of human's superpower (6:27)
  • Bringing awareness to something can't be undone (10:14)
  • Nate's top three practical tips to start changing (11:18)
  • Working with attentive hunger and moving carbs to the night (17:33)

Thanks for having me on Dr. Ron. I'm super excited to dive in and got some cool stuff to talk about today.

2:43.0

Well, I'm sure we do. And in my introduction, I, aside from mentioning that you got obsessed about helping people, which has a psychologist, my ears perked up right away.

2:56.0

It's like this was a healthy obsession, but maybe it can tell us a little bit about your journey to get to to be who you are.

3:05.0

Sure, let's, you want to just go deep right off the bat. Let's, let's do this. Sure, sure. You know, this is, you know, this is the real world.

3:13.0

This is, this is sacred. Right. I read your books, so I know you don't mind going deep and telling you it like it is.

3:20.0

Cool. So what, like when I was growing up, I think I was always kind of interested in physical culture. I was wanted to be like, you know, the Arnold Schwarzenegger, the superheroes and stuff like that.

3:28.0

And then one day I was 11 or 12 and my parents were out of the house and someone knocked on the door. And I didn't recognize them. They came around the back and broke into my house.

3:38.0

And so I did what any 12 year old would do. I grabbed a steak knife from the kitchen, ran into my room, locked the door, hit under the bed with the steak knife.

3:45.0

And I just remember feeling so powerless in that moment, just so scared of everything that I kind of got to this point where I was like, you know, if I just have a bigger meat suit.

3:54.0

If I just was more powerful of a person like this won't happen. I would never feel like this again.

4:00.0

I think that's when I kind of started working out more trying to develop some of like these physical attributes that I was looking for, you know, because of this incident.

4:07.0

But what I found along the way was that like no amount of muscle or additional body mass or anything like that really made me feel any kind of way.

4:16.0

But what I did discover was that throughout the process of committing to a goal and staying in the course and then, you know, having like looking back at my 10 year of like two years, three years, 10 years of training and nutrition and dialing these sorts of things in.
