| 0:00.0 | I'm Rachel Leacock, a market tech principal in the New York office at ThoughtWorks. |
| 0:06.5 | I'm Jeff Norris. I'm out of our San Francisco office and I'm a tech principal in one of our projects. |
| 0:12.6 | And Jeff and I are going to talk about growing technologists. |
| 0:16.6 | So how do I grow a technologist? I guess a lot of water? |
| 0:24.9 | Yes, lots of water. On our projects, |
| 0:32.1 | it seems to be more beer, but whatever. Beer is mostly water, I heard. Now, growing technologists is really all about giving people the opportunity to do the things that they're already |

| 1:11.0 | that I'm working on outside of the everyday coding that everyone is up to. And then trying to |
| 1:17.1 | understand, you know, what are their goals, what are their strengths, what are their weaknesses, |
| 1:20.6 | where are they trying to grow, where do I need them to grow? Because I have other commitments, |
| 1:26.1 | so I can't necessarily be on the ground all the time. |
| 1:28.8 | And so it may be that they're particularly interested in something along DevOps, for example, |
| 1:32.8 | on my last project. |
| 1:34.4 | Everyone was trying to understand, you know, puppet, because they previously had experience |
| 1:38.6 | in chef. |
