Today we're going to talk about squash specifically summer squash because it's coming

up on summer everyone and I'm excited about it. So summer squash varieties things like

a zucchini or a patty pan squash these are the ones that are quintessentially

summer and for me I always think of patty pans, specifically the hyper small patty pans.

I went to a farmer's market once and there was a vendor there selling patty pans that were about, oh I would say maybe a silver dollar in diameter and I cut those

in half put them in an omelet and it was absolutely delicious and so from then on I really have

enjoyed the patty pan squash.

So some summer squash, they have crazy large vines and they go absolutely wild.

But a lot of them have been bred for basically a more compact growing habit that just

takes up a lot less space and it's a fantastic one to choose if you decide to grow squash

in a container.

Just look for either a name that's indicative

of like a patio or a compact,

or look at the actual tag and see how wide and how tall that's going to spread.

And if it doesn't say that, then you can see what it says for the spacing.

And if the spacing is really wide, then you'll know it's probably a sprawling variety.

So Patty Pan Squash, those guys are like, they do

look somewhat alien. I mean they kind of look like little frisbees or like UFOs or

something like that and they have a delicious delicious flavor almost nutty I

would say that's the thing that I got from them but then again I probably don't have

the world's most developed palette if I'm just being honest with you guys. Now those ones are so easy to grow because you can

harvest them really young. I mean I think most people don't harvest them as young as the ones I found at
