Summary

Hey, y'all! Welcome to episode 53 of the Roots and Refuge Podcast, and Happy Valentines Day 💗

Today's episode is all about cultivating beauty in your garden and the profound impact it can have on your gardening journey. Join me as we explore the philosophy of growing beautiful things to stay motivated and inspired in your gardening endeavors. We'll discuss the importance of recognizing that there are countless "right" ways to garden, emphasizing the value of learning and growing as a gardener along the way.

I'll share more about my personal garden philosophy, which centers around creating an ecosystem and fostering relationships between all living things in the garden, including the soil, plants, and the land itself. We'll delve into the significance of fostering deep, engaged relationships in the garden, moving beyond transactional interactions to truly connect with the natural world around us.

During this conversation, we'll reflect on the profound benefits that gardens offer beyond mere food production. From experiencing the therapeutic presence of the garden to the joy of growing something unique and valuable, we'll explore the multifaceted rewards of tending to a garden.

I'll also share insights into nurturing healthy soil and my approach to feeding and enriching the soil ecosystem. Plus, we'll discuss the importance of diversity in the garden, mimicking nature to enhance resilience.

Ultimately, we'll explore how cultivating beauty and fostering deep relationships in the garden can enrich our lives, offering strength, beauty, and health that extends far beyond the garden gate.

0:21.7

growing a garden, preserving that food, preparing it, enjoying it, sharing it, as well as just

0:26.1

trying to live a little more mindfully with each other and with the earth.

0:30.2

I post new podcast episodes every Wednesday on all major platforms, and every Wednesday we

0:35.9

post the extra episode like a week early for our

0:39.4

patrons over on Patreon. I have some really cool guests lined up. We're going to launch into doing

0:47.3

more guest content here in the coming months. But today it's just a little old me talking to you

0:53.0

here at the beginning of, I guess we can say

0:56.7

it's the beginning of spring garden planning. For me, it definitely is. This is the time of year

1:01.3

where I'm really digging in to getting all my seeds together, getting my plan nailed down,

1:06.0

and getting ready to start seeds. That's actually on my calendar here just within the next couple of days.

1:12.8

And today I want to talk about a topic that I have covered in depth over my years as a content

1:19.8

creator in the gardening sphere. I want to talk about, I guess it's really become a philosophy

1:24.9

for me in gardening, and that is called growing something

1:28.1

lovely. I want to dive into this topic. So you guys can chew on it as you are planning your garden

1:35.5

for the year, and maybe it can help you. Maybe it'll give you something to think about, and maybe

1:40.9

you have a completely different approach, which is is also okay i've always said if you ever

1:45.5

find an individual that is teaching gardening and they tell you this is the right way or this is the

1:52.0

only way to run i get away from that information because i would go as far to say there is no right

2:00.2

way to garden i think there are definitely cases where there is no right way to garden.

2:01.0

I think there are definitely cases where there is a better way,

2:04.0

and one way is maybe superior to some other approaches.
