One of the things about the new newscast studio is that in the corridor outside, you look out the window and you can see the BT Tower, you know the big tall tower, which has a revolving message at the top every day.

And today's message is against a black background and it says,

rest in peace, dame Barbara, Windsor, because the nation's best known landlady has died at the age of 83.

When you read about her life, it's just, it was amazing.

And I just think when you're my age, being old enough to watch a carry-on film, that's a big milestone.

And then she was in EastEnders, and what some people would say was the golden era of that soap.

And she remember that time when she was playing Peggy Mitchell, and Boris Johnson turned up.

Oh, no, it's such an honour to have you here, Mr. Mayor.

Oh, please call me Boris.

Lucky for me that your bike got to punch her, isn't it?

Now, would you like a topper?

No, no, I'm fine, thank you.

And she actually saw Boris Johnson a couple of times.

Recently, she went to Downing Street to deliver a petition about care for people living with dementia because that's what she was doing.

And here is the Prime Minister's tribute today.

She was being part of all our lives, a part of my life.

I think she's one of those people who just cheered you up and cheered everybody up

because she had a kind of irrepressible naughtiness that was totally innocent.

And completely unrelatedly, we're actually going to dedicate a big chunk of today's podcast

to the subject of grief.
