Who I thought I was 10 years ago, 20 years ago and as a child, those are all different

people, really.

There's no way that you could say that the childhood version of you was the same person

that you are today.

Your molecules are different, your body is different, your brain is completely different

and yet we have this illusion and almost to the extreme a delusion that we have always

been the same person.

That's neuroscientist Gregory Burns.

He wants you to know he's not the man he was and in his new book The Self-Dilusion, he

argues that for all of us who we think we are is a work in progress.

Craig is also the neuroscientist who scanned the brains of dogs to find out if they love

their owners.

So in this conversation we talked about his insights into both who we humans think we

are and what our best friends think of us and it's with us work with dogs that we begin.

I think this is going to be an important conversation for many, many people.

There are millions of us out there who either have a dog or have had one.

It's hard for me to believe that there's hardly a person among us who hasn't said at one

time or another, what is he thinking?

And you've spent a lot of time figuring out not only what they're thinking but what they're

feeling.
