He was born in Mississippi, went to New York City, got a job working with

Elyah Kazan, the movie director, became a personal assistant and

confidant to Natalie Wood, the actress, who encouraged him to write.

And then he wrote the groundbreaking gay play, The Boys in the Band,

which became a movie, I'm going to play, then it was revived and

Tony on Broadway last year and is going to be a Netflix movie that comes out in June.

This is an interview we did with him in 2014 at Joe's Pub in New York.
