Summary

Matt & Matt discuss violence in the OT with Greg Boyd, who has devoted the last 10 years to researching and writing about this vexed topic. Our discussion ranges from the relationship between the cross and the conquest, Greg's theory of 'literary crucifixes' in the OT, how to relate the two Testaments, and more from Greg's monumental new book The Crucifixion of the Warrior God: Interpreting The Old Testament's Violent Portraits of God in Light of the Cross. And brace yourself ... there are two speed rounds in this episode. The post Greg Boyd – The Crucifixion of the Warrior God first appeared on OnScript.

Hello, OnScript listeners. This is Matt Lynch on behalf of the OnScript hosting conglomerate, which is comprised of Drew Johnson and Matt Bates.

0:09.3

I don't know why I called it a conglomerate, but just seemed like the right word. It's probably not.

0:14.4

Anyway, quick word before we start, we're going to be Matt Bates and I in this episode are talking with Greg Boyd about his book

0:21.3

The Crucifixion of the Warrior God about violence in the Old Testament. A huge topic. I get it all

0:27.3

the time with my students and it's something I'm actually writing about as well right now from a

0:31.3

really different angle. And also, yeah, oh yeah, I wanted to say there's a popular book that's going to be released soon.

0:40.2

I can't remember the title off Ham, but it's a 200-page distillation of the 1,400-page volume that he sent to us to read and prep for the interview.

0:50.8

In the interview, Matt and I, we typically read and Drew read all the books that we interview on.

0:57.5

For this one, we were only able to read a mere four or five hundred pages because mine got hung up in customs coming to the UK,

1:04.8

and then they had run out of their first print run for getting the book to Matt Bates.

1:10.2

So we only got it like pretty

1:11.7

soon before the interview and we're able to get through the whole thing. So we're still working

1:16.0

through it, which is kind of nice. It was in in progress type of interview, you know, midstop

1:22.2

in our journey through it. Also, special shout out to Ken Padgett, who's been helping us with our visuals on

1:30.0

our logo and the Facebook banner and some other stuff. We really appreciate your help, Ken,

1:37.4

and for volunteering that time. That was really kind of you. We're kind of entering a phase now

1:42.4

with OnScript where people are engaging with us in different ways.

1:45.8

We've got a few supporters.

1:47.7

We'd love to raise up an army of $2 a month supporters, which can really help us push this forward in different ways.

1:56.0

A dream would be to have someone to help edit the episodes because that takes up a lot of time

2:02.3

and I'd rather invest that personally in reading for the interviews and doing other stuff

2:09.5

related to the podcast. So if anyone has special talent in that and wants to get involved with us,
