Nick Cayley was the guy, I think a lot of people in the organization thought

should have been the offensive coordinator in 2022 when it ended up being Patricia and Judge.

I think there was maybe some sort of disconnect there with Belichick in terms of, you know, basically maybe wanting more of a long-term commitment from Nick Cayley in order to get the title. And this is where it's changed. It's not just younger players. It's younger coaches, too. Like, I don't think Nick Cayley wanted to play the game of, like, well, you're tight ends coach or your quarterback's's coach and you're going to call the place, but you won't get the title?

It's like, you want me to sign an extension? Give me the title. So Nick Cayley, I like him, and now he has sort of that imprimatur of McVeigh on him. Zach Robinson, McVeigh guy as well, passing game coordinator. This sort of says to me that Gerard Mayo is going to do what I want him to do, which is change this offensive

system, segue to an offensive system that is easier to learn,

easier for younger players coming in the league to wrap their head around.

Because this thing was great when it worked with Tom Brady, who basically has a pigskin PhD.

But for everybody else coming in, I think they were just getting bogged down in this voluminous playbook.

I was Chris Gasp for the other night on Sports Sunday with yours truly on prospective offensive coordinator candidates for the Patriots, Zach Robinson and Nick Cayley.

You can add a third guy to that list now.

At least the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback coach, Dan Pitcher, is supposed to speak via Zoom with the team this week, maybe even today.
