Hello and welcome to a new episode of Legacy. And this is a bit of a departure effort because we're not

talking about a person or a potato or a crop. We're talking about a giant island. The country is called

Khalait Numat, which it means, of course, Greenland. And when you think of Greenland, I'm actually curiously to what comes to mind, because for me,

historically in my life, it's been the most interesting part of London to New York flight.

You know, you just get to that bit where you see the in-flight map and you are so curious what's

down below. That is the closest I've come to Greenland, looking

out the window on the plane, hoping to see a glacier or a polar bear. But, you know, I think for many

of us, there hasn't been that much familiarity with Greenland beyond the indigenous cultures that

have lived there for centuries, the glaciers, the wilderness, the nature, the isolation.

But lately, Greenland has definitely penetrated both the news cycle and the global imagination,

I would say. Is that fair? Yeah, absolutely. I mean, I haven't had the same experience as you

Africa because I never get a window seat on a plane. So I've never been able to look out the window. So every day and again, I nudge the person

next to me saying, what does Greenland look like from up here? Is that because you're really tall? Do you always go for an aisle seat? No, because I'm normally polite. So I normally ask the person next to me, can you see a polar bear or a glacier or what can you tell me

about indigenous cultures. But you're right,

mainly because of a thawing Arctic, but above all because of the decisions and intelligence presentations that have been given to Donald

Trump in the White House about the geopolitical significance of Greenland. We're going to talk about

exactly why that is. But this episode, we're going to talk about the extraordinary history of Greenland,
