Someone once told me that fear was nothing more than in gratitude in advance.

This didn't make sense to me. Fear wasn't anything I could control. But in the Bible, it says,

Once when I was a kid, we were driving through the mountains on a family road trip. The road was curvy and beyond the guardrail was a serious drop.

I wasn't afraid, but instead I found my thought focusing on what I'd been learning in my Christian Science Sunday school class,

After several hours, we all agreed it was time to stop, not because the driver was tired, not because we needed gas, but because we felt like it was a good idea.

We found ourselves at the only gas station for miles, complete with a couple of locals

sitting out front in their rocking chairs. One of them gestured at our car. He was pointing out a

large bulge in the sidewall of the tire that if it had blown out on

that rural highway with the steep drop would have surely caused an accident.

I distinctly remember feeling an overwhelming sense of gratitude, not just gratitude for feeling led to stop the car before a tire burst,

but a grateful realization that God is in control every moment.

And because of that, I could be assured of things like happiness, wellness, and yes, safety, before I've ever seen evidence of this good
