When I evaluate quarterbacks in the NFL preseason, I don't necessarily

look at stats. They can be very misleading. Are you playing against the twos or

the threes? What kind of players did you have in front of you on the offensive line and again

can be very deceiving I use the eyeball test and when I watch the 49ers and the

Raiders my eyes tell me that Trey Lance just isn't that guy.

Two balls that were dropped that should have been easy picks.

Meanwhile, I look at the Raiders rookie, Aidan O'Connell, and yeah his numbers were good 15 of 18

for 141 yards in a touchdown, but my eyes told me that he looks like he belongs, looked comfortable.

Whereas Trey Lance did not look comfortable,

looked very unsure of himself,

and through a couple of awful passes that again should have been picked off.

And again we're talking about a quarterback that is going into his third season in Lance.

He should look a lot better than he did against the Raiders. I'm not expecting him to be

Johnny Unitis, but I am expecting him to be much further along in his development at this early stage of his NFL career.

I just don't see a future for him in San Francisco.
