Summary

Grandparents can be some of the most loving and helpful relationships in the lives of our children, but they can also be some of the most complicated. Navigating different expectations, values, and family cultures can cause miscommunication and even estrangement. In this episode, Emily and Laura ask the question, "Why do Grandma and Grandpa get under our skin sometimes?" which is really a way of examining our own hearts in light of the gospel. What we worship determines how we respond to happy and hard relationships, and only when we reorient our eyes to Christ's sacrifice can we approach these issues with grace.

0:41.3	Yeah, excited. And today we are talking about one of those, um, the top requested shows,
0:46.5	which I'm excited to find out what our next top requested show is Emily because it's always like,
0:50.5	we do the top one and then another one pops up. Yeah, every time we tackle him and
0:54.6	it's those of you guys who've listened to this show for a while, know that whenever we are
0:57.6	recording in person, which we are right now, we get a little giddy. So yeah, I know it's excited.
1:02.1	It's just so special and fun to be around each other. So, but we are talking about those
1:07.8	grandparent relationships. Your parents, your in-laws, maybe you have some step-in-laws or step
1:13.8	parents or maybe your dad has a girlfriend or there's just like all sorts of different
1:19.8	grandparents general, grandparents in general, and our parents both, man, all of the parents that
1:26.7	Emily and I are involved with, this us and our children collectively. Most of the time,
1:31.7	listen to the show not always, but they sometimes tune in. And as we pulled you guys on Instagram,
1:37.6	not too long ago before the show came out and we just kind of asked, hey, what are some of the
1:42.4	the struggles that you have with your in-laws or your parents or what are some of the grandparent
1:46.0	struggles because Emily and I have been really blessed. I think to have really good relationships with
1:51.5	our children's grandparents. Emily is not allowed to say anything bad about my parents. So even
1:56.0	she had a grievance. I don't want to hear it. No, I'm just kidding. We all have our things.
