Summary

The UTD Podcast was on the road once more as we joined former Manchester United defender Graeme Hogg up in Scotland.

Graeme now works as a HGV driver and explained how he didn't manage to find his way back in to football after hanging up his boots.

Racking up over 100 appearances for Man Utd, the Scotsman looked back on his fondest moment in red; a historic second leg comeback win over Barcelona at Old Trafford, where he proudly stated he had Diego Maradona in his back pocket.

Sam, Helen and Maysie read out your e-mails at the end of the episode. If you'd like to write to the only official Manchester United Podcast then e-mail utdpodcast@manutd.co.uk

And if you'd like to listen through our back-catalogue, the best place to do that is over on the Manchester United App, where you can listen to and watch all of our episodes in full for free!

We'd also love it if you could leave us a rating and review wherever you listen to your podcasts.

Hello and welcome to the night podcast. I am delighted to be joined on Zoom right now with Helen Evans and David May. How are you both?

0:08.0

Very good.

0:09.0

Good sum. How are you?

0:10.0

I'm very good.

0:11.0

So for those of you that are listening, this podcast was recorded in person in Scotland. We went to Glasgow, but we are doing this bit of the conversation afterwards on Zoom because of time issues.

0:24.0

It's not that interesting.

0:25.0

Yes, because on the way to Scotland, Maisie and I got the train and our train got cancelled, so we were a little short on time when we got there, weren't we, Maisie?

0:34.0

Yeah, we were, yeah.

0:35.0

That was it, wasn't it? Graham Hogg is a more, in some ways, a much more interesting person for our podcast in that he has a very unique life, I think, compared to everybody else that we've ever had, probably.

0:48.0

Played over 100 games for United, but immediately went into what you would sort of call regular work and like drives trucks and stuff.

0:57.0

Yeah, it's not very often you hear of a former footballer who has been its GB driver for years, because generally, although maybe that's just the circles that we are in, because we're around, well, Trafford and on matchdays, you say a lot of the explainers who are now doing that sort of work.

1:13.0

So it is quite strange, but there probably is more than what you think.

1:16.0

That's a really good point.

1:17.0

As I said, Maisie, what was your thinking when you retired? Did you want to stay in football, because obviously lots of people go straight into coaching and things?

1:24.0

Did you want to be in, because obviously you aren't involved in football, did you want to be involved? Did you just want to get away from it?

1:28.0

As far as other times, I don't have enough playing and training and doing all that sort of stuff, but eventually you get bored of playing golf and going on holiday and doing stuff like that.

1:41.0

So I think you always want to try and get back into it in some sort of capacity, but I don't know, maybe because obviously it's from Scotland, you went back up to Scotland, maybe you just lost the ties with the clubs.

1:55.0

But it will be good to get him down, because I'm sure he's got some fantastic stories.

1:59.0

Yeah, of course.

2:00.0

It'll be great having one of the lounges on matchdays.

2:02.0

Of course, if you are lucky enough to go to Trafford, you do meet the ex players and legends in the lounges, which is a really, really nice experience.

2:10.0

So yes, this was a lovely little trip up to Scotland.
