However, you're tuning in on YouTube or on your podcast app. Thanks for making us your first listen every day. I'm Wes Goldberg, and today we're talking about the big tray young deal. We're going to talk about what's next for the Hawks and the Wizards after the trade. And then get into these from Janus about his commitment to the Milwaukee Bucks and we're doing it with the help of lockdown's local experts. I have two of the best with me as always. From the Lockdown Nuggets podcast, is the senior NBA writer for the Action Network. It's Matt. Whizhive! I'm so excited for the Wizards fans that have something to be excited about even if it's just Trey young. |
| 2:18.8 | From the Locked on Bulls podcast, he's also a Bears and Bulls creator for Bleacher Report. It's Hayes. Let's be clear here. Nobody should be excited about Trey Young being on their team, Matt. Let's stop the bull crap. We'll talk about it. Out of the gate. Out of the gate. Let's start with that big news from last night that the Hawks have traded Tray Young to the Wizards, and in return they get C.J. McCollum and Corey Kisper. No draft pick, surprisingly enough, were involved in the deal. It's the end of an era in Atlanta, and some fans, I think, might be surprised by the lack of the return for the Hawks. Brad Rowland of Lockdown Hawks, who's been all over this story from the beginning, was a little lukewarm about the trade from Atlanta's perspective. Here's more on his reaction. Frankly, as an observer, as an analyst of the Hawks, this is an underwhelming return. I use that word purposely. I don't believe that it's a terrible return. I've seen a lot of people say that. I totally understand why. The notion has been out there, like, how do the Hawks make this trade and get no picks back for Tray Young? Very reasonable question. And honestly, if I was grading the trade from a neutral party perspective, for example, Kevin Belton of the BSPN is he gave the Hawks a B and the Wizards of B. Like, it's basically like a tacit plus on both sides. I like the wizard's side |
| 2:24.1 | of this a little bit more than the Hawks side. If I was doing like the 10,000 foot analysis, |
| 2:28.7 | but there are also deals that can make stuff for both teams. And this kind of does. So there's a little |
| 2:33.2 | bit of nuance in there. I don't love this trade for the Hawks. |
| 2:38.4 | Hayes, the Petty is strong with you today. How would you rate this trade for the Atlanta Hawks? |
| 2:44.5 | You can give it a grade. You don't have to, but how would you rate this trade for the Hawks? |
| 2:47.1 | It's an A plus. Like, you're clearing somebody who you have had a better record |
| 2:52.3 | without over the last three years. You've had a better record with him off the court than on the |
| 2:56.9 | court. You have this young roster that if I'm not mistaken was above 500 before Trey Young returned, |
| 3:02.1 | they're now below 500. On top of that, you've gained cap flexibility. You now have $88 million in cap space in the summer of 2026 on top of two first |
| 3:12.6 | round picks in a deep draft that you can make a move to add young talent to. |
| 3:18.1 | Listen, I get it. |
