Summary

First, a look at some races that are flying under the radar -- governor's races. Governors of course have a massive impact on local politics -- just look at Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott -- but they also have a critical role in certifying elections. DeSantis (Florida), Evers (Wisconsin), and Georgia (Kemp) are all up in 2022 -- Joe wants to make sure Democrats are focused on these elections too (in addition to holding the House and Senate). Thanks to Jennifer Rubin, whose Washington Post op-ed got us thinking about this. Then, despite the trends for midterm elections historically, Joe is optimistic about the Senate map in 2022. There are vulnerable Republicans across the country and several high-profile retirements. Joe and Alex dive in to the key races and the places in which Democrats are actually on the offensive, and one very important swing race. Lastly, we address some listener questions (keep sending them to thattrippishow@gmail.com), including one about why Joe is willing to join Republicans at The Lincoln Project given the damage done by their party to the political system. 0:23.2

Alex, where do you want to start?

0:25.9

Yeah, a lot of the news this week as usual.

0:28.5

There's a few races I think that we should probably start with.

0:31.8

You know, Joe, we've been pretty much constantly

0:34.3

talking about the Senate and the House and I think we have. Everyone agrees that's the

0:38.7

fight. That's ground zero. It is. It is the fight. But there are a lot of races, especially on the statewide level, that are going to affect those and have major impacts next year.

0:48.0

Jennifer Rubin had a great piece in the post this week about how important a lot of the governor's raises will be.

0:55.0

What do you see in there?

0:56.0

Well, she's right.

0:57.0

I mean, Jennifer Rubin's right.

1:00.0

Look, we always, unfortunately, as a party, and we talked about this a lot on the show, have focused

1:05.9

on federal races, House and Senate.

1:07.9

Unfortunately, 2022, if we lose either the House or the Senate, democracy could be well on its way, if not already,

1:15.4

you know, on its way over an abyss.

1:18.0

That would certainly help shove it over.

1:20.4

They are still two of the most important areas to focus on.

1:24.0

I will talk about this a little later on in the podcast.

1:29.0

I still feel pretty good about the Senate.

1:31.0

We'll get into that.
