welcome to another episode of the McCarty Sellers Podcast. Today we actually have someone who I just wholeheartedly admire even from a distance.

They are replacing somebody else who I know pretty well but none other than Charlie Baker and we have the 73rd governor I think I got that right the 73rd governor of Massachusetts

none other than governor Healy how are you today? I am great. I am great and I'm

great to see you too. Well let's let's do this because one of the things that we

always start my show with the same first question which is to walk us through the arc of your career and so since finishing

Northeastern and Harvard talk to me about the stops that you've made along your career

to where you end up at this point.

And the reason we ask that question

is because I speak to a lot of amazing guests

and a lot of young people listen to the show

and they just think you just ended up in the seat that you're in. But talk about some of those

ups and downs to help lead to where you are today. Well I thank you for that because I got to say

never in a thousand years would I have imagined that I would be governor or attorney general, let

alone run for public office. Okay, it's not something I said as a little kid that I wanted to do.

I grew up in a small town in New Hampshire and was raised by a single mom. She had five of us. She was a school nurse. She kept us busy in school and also with sports, which became a big part of my life. I had the chance to go to Harvard and ended up capturing the basketball team there.

And from there, I wasn't sure really what I wanted to do, Bakari. I thought I wanted to go to law school. I wanted to be an advocate. But I also hadn't had a chance to really see the world. And in 1992 I had a chance to go play pro basketball in Europe. There was no pro league in the United States, but I had a chance to go abroad.
