Summary

Jim Geraghty is back! Join Jim and Greg on today’s 3 Martini Lunch as they break down the collapse of a government-funded grocery store in Kansas City, the global rush to wrongly blame Israel for Gaza’s food crisis, and a proven solution to Washington, D.C.’s violent crime problem.

First, they chronicle the closing of a Kansas City grocery store that received $18 million in local government funding overits seven-year existence. Empty shelves, poor maintenance, and a dangerous neighborhood were constant problems. And New York City voters would wise to learn now that government-run grocery stories do not work.

Next, they dig into the widespread condemnation of Israel over Gaza’s hunger crisis. Leftists like Sen. Bernie Sanders say this is 100 percent Israel's fault and Hamas deserves no blame. Jim and Greg explain how Hamas is very much to blame and Jim also points out how the media have no interest in far worse famines in other parts of the world.

Finally, they react to the Washington, D.C. police chief’s surprising unfamiliarity with the concept of a chain of command. As for Trump's recent actions, Jim hopes they improve the quality of life in the nation's capital, but he does not see them as a permanent solution. He says there is a proven method to drastically reducing violent crime, but we need city officials who actually want to do it.

So glad you're here for the Wednesday edition of the three martini lunch, and you could not have picked a better day because Jim Garrity is back, thanks to Scott Bertram and John Gabriel for filling in while Jim was on vacation.

0:26.1

He was legitimately on vacation.

0:28.2

This wasn't some sort of multiple war zone tour like we had a little bit earlier in the year.

0:33.9

But Jim, you had at least one of our listeners, the famous Irving Schmidlap, guessing where you were over and overgo, everywhere from Antarctica to yesterday.

0:43.1

Guest France, he was so close.

0:44.8

He was, yes.

0:46.0

You were actually in Spain.

0:47.4

Yeah, we hit Barcelona, Zaragoza, which is a smaller city in the middle of Madrid, and then went up to the monastery of Montserrat.

0:55.8

And Greg, I was as detached from the news cycle as I've been in a very long time. And I loved it.

1:02.0

Not that I'm not happy to be back and all that stuff, but thanks to everybody who filled in.

1:05.6

And thank you for jumping on the grenade of that news cycle over the last week or so.

1:09.8

But hey, things are normal today.

1:11.8

There's always something that happens when either one of us is on vacation.

1:14.7

We didn't bomb anybody this time. That's the big change. Yes, there was no bombing of Iran or anyone

else. There was one time where Jim and I actually overlapped on vacation in generally the same

place. And it happened to be when the outrage was blowing up over kids in cages during the first Trump administration. And we met for

1:32.9

like half an hour to park because it was like 110 degrees or something. And we just looked at

1:36.9

each other and we said, so glad we're not doing the show this week. Yeah. Kids and cages. That

was what it was bad. It became okay when Biden was in office.
