borrowing heavily from David Cois' book entitled Political Visions and

Illusions. The premise of his book is that political ideology can easily become political

idolatry. And in this way, politics becomes a counterfeit gospel of sorts, promising a form of political salvation and deliverance.

We have considered and critiqued the most prominent of these government gospels, but I didn't

want to end the discussion without offering a proactive way forward for the Christian to engage politics.

So we get it, right?

Political idolatry is bad.

Do not trust in any counterfeit government gospel.

Do not allow the Christian faith to become a politicized faith.

Aren't politics an important part of the Christian worldview and tradition? Yes, is the answer. Shouldn't the Christian care about elections and

policies? Yes. Shouldn't we take seriously our civic duty? Yes. Absolutely, the government is viewed in Scripture as an incredibly important God-ordained institution with a vital role to play in protecting its citizens, restraining evil, promoting public good.
