Texas Governor Greg Abbott is generating controversy with politicians outside of his state’s lines. Buses have been carrying migrants from the Texas border to liberal sanctuary cities such as New York and Washington D.C., angering and overwhelming the leaders of those cities. While DC Mayor Muriel Bowser has called for help from the National Guard, New York Mayor Eric Adams has condemned Abbott, accusing him of using the migrants as political pawns. Gov. Abbott joins the Rundown to explain the message he hopes to send as Texas deals with its ongoing immigration crisis, and the work he's doing to strengthen the construction of the border wall. An investigative report from the Associated Press found that in multiple states the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was diverting child abuse allegation from law enforcement to church attorneys instead. The clergy-penitent privilege has long exempted spiritual advisors from the requirement to report child abuse if confessed in religious confidentiality. However, some lawmakers are now taking action. Utah State Representative Phil Lyman joins the Rundown to discuss his bill aimed at including clergy under mandatory reporting requirements for child abuse and his hope as a member of the Mormon Church to practice his faith while advocating for children's safety and clarifying state law.
