0:00.0 | Hi everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Gospel Exegesis podcast, Biological Bible Study. In this special |
0:20.0 | bonus episode, I want to do a bit of an introduction |
0:22.4 | to the gospel of John because we're coming up to a time in the church's liturgical calendar |
0:28.8 | where we're going to hear a lot of the gospel of John. And it's really important that we |
0:33.6 | understand who John is, why he writes the way he writes, and a bit more of the background |
0:40.2 | stuff. Once we do that, it will be a lot easier for us to understand his language that we're |
0:46.2 | going to be encountering over the next few weeks. And the Gospel of John is a really interesting |
0:50.6 | gospel in a lot of ways. So the Gospel of John, when do we hear John in the |

1:17.3 | So on weekdays, the Gospel of John is read primarily in Lent and Easter weekdays, and it's read |
1:24.3 | in blocks of about two chapters per week. And it's kind of spread out in a funny way. |
1:28.6 | So, chapter one of John is read after Christmas. |
1:32.6 | Chapter three is read during the Easter season. |
1:35.3 | Chapter four and five is during the Lent season. |
1:38.5 | Chapter six is in the Easter season again. |
1:41.5 | Chapter 7 to 11 is in the Lent season. |
1:45.8 | And then the final half of the book, |
1:53.2 | chapters 12 to 21, is after Easter. And also some before Easter as well. So it's covered in the Easter season. So you do get to hear most of the Gospel of John, but it's not in sequential order. |
1:58.3 | It's in kind of blocks as well. What about Sundays? |
2:02.4 | When do we get to hear the Gospel of John at the Catholic Mass on Sundays? So it's read on |
