It's great to be here and it's great to see you again and to talk to you.

We are both sons of the man's. Yes.

Our fathers were both minister of the church's garden and when I was growing up lots of people

asked me whether I had ambition to follow in my father's footsteps.

I don't know if that was something that maybe there's a tradition of that in church who's

got my family.

I don't think that was ever going to be for me.

You were never going to follow.

Or for my two brothers.

And funnily enough, I don't think my father, I don't know about your father.

My father never really encouraged me or suggested that this would be the way forward.

I think there was a time in the 1920s, 1930s when for a family because my father's family

came from farming stock that to either be a teacher or a minister or a lawyer was the

way out and the way forward.

And so there was a lawyer, there was a professor, my father was a minister.

But I never thought that that was going to be for me.

And also of course, religion and politics are very difficult.

So if you do, my father used to have this story about one of his friends.

So he couldn't say to his congregation the people that he was preaching to every Sunday,

vote labor or vote that.
