I'm Zoe Thomas for the Wall Street Journal. Google will begin showing artificial intelligence powered answers to some searches

with a feature called AI overviews.

Users asking Google to explain the connection between lightning and thunder,

for example, will see a passage of text answering the question at the top of the results page before the traditional

list of links.

Google announced the changes today at its annual I.O conference.

The company plans to roll the new responses out to users in the U.S. this week and to other markets

by the end of this year.

The probe follows 22 reported incidents involving the unit's automated driving system.

The regulator said 17 of the incidents were crashes or fires. In other incidents,
