As some of you may recall, I used to work at Buzzfeed.

I left in 2015 so long before any of this was happening, but I kept up with the news

when in 2019 Buzzfeed employees were fighting to and then able to unionize.

This was after Buzzfeed unceremoniously laid off 15% of their workforce and then tried to

weasel out of paying them for paid time off in their severance packages.

A January 2019 fast company article called Buzzfeed's layoffs and the false promise

of unions aren't for us. Detailed the layoff of hundreds of employees,

which then spurred 400 others to petition the company to include paid time off in the

severance packages. Very reasonable.
