Hey, everyone. Today's book came out in 1947 with the groundbreaking idea that maybe not every bedtime story needs to have a kid get eaten by a witch.

It's Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown.

I'm Kellyn Erskine. I'm a comic, a father, and I, too, also decorate my kid's room with a picture of bears and an old woman.

And an open fire.

And a dollhouse where when the room lights are turned off, the dollhouse is still lit from within.

What on earth is happening in that doll house? And I'm David Vance.

We didn't have this book growing up, but we did have the book where the old mom breaks into her

adult son's house and with the strength of a bodybuilder rocks his giant frame, singing a lullaby

even though he's already asleep.

Goodnight Moon is a classic minimalist children's book. I bet 20 bucks that in 10 years it'll be

a wacky movie with celebrity cameos and pop culture jokes written just for the parents.

And this is the book pile. That little house, the last time I read this to my five-year-old, he pointed at that house and he said,

but what lives in there?

And it sounded even creepier that he asked what.

I assume maybe the mouse that is being so cavalier around those cats.

The tiniest cats in the world, if these are regular-sized bunnies.
