Sure, some folks have criticized AI, and the guilds have been great about trying to regulate against AI and stop it in its tracks from taking away from artists, but really it seems like it's going to take a man from the future, or so he says, who's ready to physically fight AI to defeat it. And that certainly is the hero that we all need. Howdy, I'm Jeff Goldsmith,

0:23.2

and this is the Q&A. My agenda is simple. Each week I plan to bring you in-depth insights into

0:28.4

the creative process of storytelling. And folks, we have a heck of an episode for you today, because

0:33.4

we have with us screenwriter Matthew Robinson. He wrote today's film, good luck, have fun,

0:40.9

don't die. It's a banger of a film. I really dig it, and it's a lot of fun. And this is a very

0:46.2

interesting story, actually, about an artist sticking to their guns. No pun intended, if you've seen

0:51.6

the movie. But Matthew really stuck to it. And he would only

0:55.9

allow this film to be made the way that it was written. And he did not compromise over what

1:02.7

turned out to be a 10-year period where this became a great calling card script for him. But

1:08.2

ultimately he had some kind of controversial, but not entirely.

1:12.9

Like, it's not really that offensive, but some political elements to the script that go

1:17.6

beyond AI that he refused to cut out.

1:20.8

And kudos to him for that, because it's a better movie because of it.

1:24.3

It's an element that's been left out of the trailers, so it'll definitely surprise you when you see the movie, but he plays it for satire to really good comedic effect.

1:33.3

And I think it's just another one of the many reasons why this is a great script and thereby

1:38.0

a really enjoyable, cool film. So I encourage you to go see the movie, and if you have a

1:44.0

teenage family member in your

1:45.8

life, maybe even take them along, because this is a movie that kind of trolls a lot of their

1:51.5

generation, to be quite honest, and that's funny in and of itself as the high school comedy

1:56.2

element. But no matter what, I hope you'll show your support for this independent science

1:59.9

fiction film that is in theaters this weekend because we really want to see more indie sci-fi just like it.

2:06.7

Without a doubt, this was a fun interview because Matt was so generous with his time and certainly his creative process, so I know you'll dig this episode.
