Welcome to the In Touch podcast with Charles Stanley for Wednesday, November 19th.

Today you'll be introduced to a man who thought he could get into heaven by being good.

0:11.0

But Jesus reminded him and us that though our behavior may look good, it's never good enough.

0:18.0

Well, this message today is about a very good man who came to Jesus and

0:23.5

asked him for something that he needed, that he felt like he needed desperately. And yet when the

0:27.9

Lord told him, he said, now this is how you can have this. The Bible says that he decided

0:32.6

that really wasn't what he wanted that badly. And so he walked away. The title of this message is good,

0:39.0

but not good enough. And this is the kind of passage that a person, average person, will read this

0:45.2

and they'll say, well, that's an interesting story, but that doesn't apply to me because I just don't

0:50.5

have the same kind of circumstances that that person has. Not realizing that probably the basic reason most people will meet God unprepared is for the same reason this young man made the mistake that he made.

1:08.6

So I want you to turn, if you will, to Matthew chapter 19. And I want us to begin reading in the 16th verse. And behold, one came to him

1:18.0

and said, teacher, what good things shall I do that I may obtain eternal life? And he said to him,

1:24.5

why are you asking me about what is good? There is only one who is good,

1:30.3

but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments. He said to him, which ones?

1:36.3

And Jesus said, you shall not commit murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal.

1:43.0

You shall not bear false witness, honor your father and mother,

1:46.7

and you shall love your neighbor as yourself. The young man said to him, all these things I have kept,

1:53.8

what am I still lacking? Jesus said to him, if you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions,

2:02.2

and give to the poor,

2:08.5

and you shall have treasure in heaven, and come follow me. But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieved, for he was one who owned much property. And Jesus said to

2:14.2

his disciples, truly I said to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.

2:19.5

And again, I said to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.
