Summary

With fourteen governments and a three-person presidency, Bosnia and Herzegovina's political system is often described as the most complicated in the world. It's a system that was designed to keep the peace after a devastating war. But three decades on, is it still working? This week we give Aleksandar Brezar the near-impossible task of untangling the weekend's elections for us. We're also talking about Malta's golden passports and a chess scandal involving anal beads. Yes, you heard that correctly.

Aleksandar is a journalist mostly covering the Western Balkans. You can find him on Twitter here.

Something has been really bugging me this week.

You know how much I love living in Paris?

0:27.2

Yeah.

0:27.9

You do complain about it quite a lot, don't you?

0:30.0

I do.

0:30.8

But one thing I complain about specifically is that I hate the Netflix show,

0:34.7

Emily in Paris, with a visceral passion.

0:39.8

And I've started noticing more and more young tourists dressing like Emily and Paris. It's kind of like a weird Parisian cosplay.

0:46.7

Like they've got these stupid little berets, which they wear at a jaunty angle. And it's driving me

0:52.2

crazy, Dominic. You're becoming an old person officially.

0:55.5

I think so. This podcast used to be a podcast for young people, but it isn't anymore. Anyway,

this is the Europeans. It's the podcast that tries to demystify this continent's very confusing

1:09.2

Amsterdam? Oh, and I'm Dominic, by the way. Thanks for remembering to just say who I am.

1:14.2

You think we know how to do this by now?

1:15.9

Not much is happening here. It's just really cold and I'm trying not to put the heating on.

1:20.9

But, you know, everyone's going through the same thing right now.

French politicians this week have been trying to get the nation to wear

roll-neck jumpers, which is something that French intellectuals do a lot anyway. So I guess that's

going to be an extra big trend this winter. It does make a big difference. It's actually quite

a good idea. I should do that too. But also, I saw a chart this week showing that energy prices
