A Black man was lynched by a police officer in Minneapolis, and the people have had

enough of it.

Last week, George Floyd, a Black man, was lynched by four white Minneapolis police officers,

who was pinned face down on the ground by the officers, as one of the officers pressed

his knee to George's neck for over nine minutes, killing him.

It's a reminder that however devastating the coronavirus has been to our country, it's

not the only virus we're fighting.

Racism lurks ever-present in our society, killing people like George Floyd, Breonna Taylor,

and Amat Arbori directly, and killing so many others indirectly, as we've discussed,

by creating the glide path for diseases like COVID-19 into Black communities.

Of course, the murders of Black people at the hands of police are not new, but they have

newly emerged onto the national consciousness over the past ten years because of social

media.

Today, almost everyone has an internet-enabled camera in their pocket, allowing images

to hit the public within seconds, or in real time.

As much as they've raised a new national consciousness about police violence and the

murder of Black people, there's always a cost.

The viral sharing of these videos has created a sort of pain porn, as activist Mickey

Kendall calls it.
