2023. I am John Pudhor. It's the editor of commentary magazine again a wash and gratitude

for the generosity of you are listeners who have been responding over the last two weeks

to my pleadings about helping us financially as we ramp up with our coverage not only of the war

in Israel but the culture war over Jews and anti-Semitism and support for Israel

here at home I have a quick personal anecdote that is not really much of an anecdote but

I'm very angry today not that I haven't been angry before. People may have seen yesterday footage

of a scene at Tulane or around Tulane University where a pro-Palestinian demonstration with people

writing in pickup trucks looking like they were in Hamas or on the West Bank in Janine or in one

of those settings where you see Islamic radicals peeling around desert locations in their pickup

trucks with wearing bandanas and hiding their faces and at one point in one of these pickup trucks

somebody was going to take the Israeli flag and set it on fire and then you saw a Tulane student

run up to the truck and he didn't really have anything at hand to use to prevent this

lighting of the Israeli flag on fire what he had in his hand was an Israeli flag and so he swung

the Israeli flag not on a flagpole in his hand swung it at the other Israeli flag

to distract the guy and then another guy in the pickup truck who had the Palestinian flag

and had on a flagpole smashed him in the head with the flagpole at which point

in the middle this was sort of in the video this is on this far side of the street in the middle

of the street a couple of kids run up to help their friend and someone smashes one of these

boys 19 year old boys with a megaphone smashes him in the head I know that boy I have known that

boy since he was three years old he was in my daughter's nursery school class at the

Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School in New York City not his family are there people I know I
