Summary

We hear Jesus referred to as Immanuel in the Christmas story and all throughout the Christmas season. We know it means “God with us,” but do we ever stop and think about what that means practically?

Rebecca Carrell is with us today and has the perfect Christmas reminder of why Immanuel changes everything in our lives. She challenges us to consider how the Israelites experienced God in the desert through the daily direction and provision of following a cloud and waiting for manna to eat.

We have the same opportunity to tap into the real presence of Jesus, who wants to guide and direct us through all we face each day.

Take a few minutes to nurture your soul as we consider the gift of Immanuel, the God who is with us in this very moment.

mean practically? What does that mean tangibly? And so we're going to talk about just that little phrase,

that definition of the name of Jesus used she was so often around Christmas time.

And so Rebecca Carroll used to be a radio host here on a morning show in the Dallas-Fort Worth

area. She's been a dear friend of mine for years. She now works at local seminary and has so much

1:05.1

great insight. So I'm thrilled she's with us. Before we go there, can I tell you a little story

1:09.9

of something that just happened

1:11.5

here recently? We were finishing putting up all the Christmas stuff. This was the last couple

1:16.8

of weeks. And my husband went out to the garage to put a couple things in the garage. And while he

1:21.6

was out there, he decided the shorts he was wearing. He needed for something the next day, maybe a

1:27.2

practice for one of his teams, something.

1:29.3

And so he took his shorts off. By the way, this is going to fall under TMI, perhaps.

1:34.3

He took his shorts off and he put him in the gym bag that was outside that he was going to put in his truck.

1:39.3

And they came back in the house. And so he's in his underwear and a t-shirt.

1:43.3

And, you know, like longer

1:45.9

underwear, but not boxers, like real underwear.

1:49.0

And so he's sitting in our house watching a show for a second.
