Summary

Our first reading is taken this weekend from the last chapter of the marvelous book of Proverbs. After ruminating for many pages on different aspects of the wise life, the author concludes with a hymn of praise to a smart, industrious, dedicated, and pious wife. I would like to focus on the theology and spirituality of work implied in this passage. Our work makes us collaborators with God, who gives us the privilege of participating in his good governance of the universe.

0:44.5	means the feast of Christ the King. We always end the year with this
0:49.6	reflection on the kingship, the Lordship of Jesus. You know it's interesting how
0:54.2	this feast was instituted at the beginning of the 20th century with the rise of
0:59.2	the totalitarian dictatorships and the church was saying no no no to all those
1:06.1	false claims to ultimate authority. Ultimate authority for us belongs to one
1:12.2	person Christ the King. Well for this year the church gives us as the first
1:17.5	reading a marvelous passage from the 34th chapter of the prophet Ezekiel.
1:22.8	Again one of the most compelling of the major prophets complex fascinating
1:28.4	rich. Well Ezekiel as I probably told you before was a temple priest certainly
1:35.0	and he was carried off in the first wave of the Babylonian exile. So around the
1:40.8	year 600 BC he was in a word witness to the greatest catastrophe in the
1:48.6	history of Israel. Israel which was meant to be the nation to gather all the
1:53.8	nations of the world, the nation to give God right praise and thereby attract
1:57.9	everyone in the world. That nation of Israel has now crushed, defeated, its
