First Kings chapter 19 verses 4 and 5.

But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom

tree and he asked that he might die, saying it is enough.

Now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my father's.

And he lay down and slept under a broom tree.

And behold, an angel touched him and said to him, arise and eat.

I think these are some of my favorite verses in the whole Old Testament.

And the reason is, well, let me set the stage.

Elijah in 1st Kings chapter 18 calls down fire from heaven and sees God answer his prayer in a powerful way.

He prays for rain and God provides it.

And then at the beginning of 1st Kings chapter 19, I think Elijah thought that at this point, the people of God would be turning to the worship of God and things would be getting better,

but in 1st Kings chapter 19, it seems like they're only getting worse and he's again facing threats against his life.

And so he runs, he runs away. And he gets to this point, he sits down and he says,

it's enough. Now, O Lord, take away my life. Like Elijah is ready for his life to end.

Not just his ministry, his life.

1:35.3

He's ready for it to be over.

1:38.3

And I read that and I think if Elijah,

1:42.3

this mighty prophet of God, is not beyond getting to that point,

1:48.6

where he doesn't even want to go on with life, none of us is beyond getting to that point.

Right?

You or I are not beyond getting to the point where we say, I just don't want to go on.
