Summary

Friends, with our readings from this weekend, we are on very holy ground because we're dealing with the imagery, symbolism, and theology of the suffering servant. Yes, he is the one who will bring God's salvation to all the world, but he will do it by bearing the pain and suffering of the world.

1:14.2

Deuteronry 2nd Isaiah. Associated most likely with a figure around the time of

1:19.5

1:30.6

suffering servant imagery is taken from this middle section, this Deuteron

1:34.5

Isaiah, dealing with the triumphant return of the exiles. So this section is

1:42.0

particularly lyrical and beautiful. It's the language of triumph and comfort and

1:49.2

return. It's joyful. Listen to how it begins. Here's the opening lines of

1:55.1

chapter 40. Comfort. Oh comfort my people says your God. Speak tenderly to
