Summary

What are the most common questions Frank answers during his college visits and how do we distinguish between a legitimate theological mystery and a true logical contradiction when discussing God's omnipotence, foreknowledge, and moral responsibility with skeptics?

In this midweek Q&A episode, Frank tackles the problem of evil and the deeper questions it raises about God’s goodness, justice, and mercy. Find out how free will, moral responsibility, and redemption fit into a MUCH bigger story that explains suffering while offering real hope in the midst of experiencing great pain. Frank will answer questions like:

  • What is classical Christian theology and how does it address the problem of evil?
  • What are the four major categories of Christian apologetics?
  • Where can you easily find answers to skeptics most commonly asked questions about Christianity?
  • Does God care more about our comfort or our character?
  • What are four major problems with macroevolution?
  • If God is good and all-powerful, why doesn’t He stop evil?
  • What does Frank say that redemption is more powerful than innocence?
  • When it comes to God's omnipotence, is appealing to “mystery” a copout or is there a clear difference between a logical contradiction and a limitation in human understanding?
  • What are two powerful examples from Frank's personal life where good emerged from a tragic event?

Later in the program, Frank also reacts to President Trump's State of the Union address and what it reveals about the political divide in our country, including the dangers of blind loyalty. Do you have a question for Frank? Send it to hello@crossexamined.org!

Ladies and gentlemen, what are the top questions people have about Christianity and where

0:07.6

can you go to get answers to them?

0:11.6

And when we say that God has reasons for evil that we don't know about, is that acknowledging

0:19.1

a mystery?

0:20.3

Is it a contradiction or is it something else?

0:23.8

And then what was the main event at the State of the Union last week that revealed the starkest difference between the political parties and why as Christians and reasonable people, hopefully we're reasonable, must we not automatically

0:43.1

dismiss what people say who are on the other side of the political aisle or even the theological

0:49.8

aisle? Like, should you consider what atheists say? We're going to get into that in this program.

0:57.2

But before I do, I just want to say we just got back from the Great White North, the

1:02.2

upper peninsula of Michigan. We were up there last week doing Michigan Tech and Northern

1:09.1

Michigan University. If you look at where Michigan

1:12.8

Tech is, it's up in Houghton in the upper, upper peninsula of Michigan, almost to the end. It's

1:22.3

205 miles north of Green Bay, Wisconsin, way up there where they used to have a lot of

1:29.5

copper mines. They don't have them anymore. They're not as profitable anymore. So they've been

1:34.5

shut down. But the people up there in the Upper Peninsula were just very friendly. And we basically

1:40.0

had snow for four straight days. They've had over 300 inches of snow this winter, and it just

1:46.4

kept snowing. But it's no problem up there. They keep the roads clear, the runway was clear at

1:51.9

Marquette, where we flew into it. Then we had to drive two hours to the north. So we were there

1:56.2

at Michigan Tech in Houghton, and then the next night we were at Northern Michigan.

2:01.4

You can see both of those events on our YouTube channel.

2:05.5

I think we had about 800 at Michigan Tech, and we had a full house at Northern Michigan,

2:09.5

which held a little over 400.
