Have you ever heard the expression, the horns of the altar?

It's an interesting expression.

It comes directly from Scripture, and it is seen in the Old Testament tabernacle.

I want to talk to you today about not only the place of that altar of prayer and the provision of that altar of prayer, but now the

protection of the altar of prayer. Those who do not approach this altar live in danger.

Those who come to the altar find, if I may say it this way, God's safe place. I want to bring you back to Exodus

chapter 30. We've read it already, but I want you to mark something in your Bible and your

thinking. He's describing this altar, and he says in verse number two, that it's to have horns.

You see, the horns thereof shall be of the same. Verse number three, and the horns thereof.

What are these horns on the altar? In fact, in verse number 10, when Aaron comes in on the day of

atonement, he puts blood upon the horns of that altar. What are the

horns of the altar? Well, you remember that the first altar, the altar in the outer

court, the first one we studied, the brazen altar, it also had horns. Do you remember that?

And why did it have horns? It had horns because they would bring huge animal sacrifices to offer.

Burnt sacrifices were being placed on that massive altar. And so the horns there had really a functional,

certainly symbolic as well, but a functional purpose. And that was they would literally tie off
