The whole idea of redemption in Scripture is simply the revelation of who our God is.

It's revealing the extent to which he is willing to go to save souls.

You see, something only has to be redeemed if it's in bondage. In fact, the word redeem carries with

it the idea of purchasing something back with a price. That's what salvation is, bought, paid for,

with the highest price imaginable, the

precious blood of Jesus Christ. And so only through that price being paid can the way be made.

Only through redemption is their real deliverance. Perhaps outside of what Christ himself did in the New Testament scripture,

the most beautiful picture of this is found in what God did for the children of Israel

in bringing them out of Egyptian bondage.

We come today in our study of God's redemption timeline to the book of Exodus.

Now, we've seen little glimmers of this redemptive work in the book of Genesis.

We've seen in seed form, first mention and first pictures, God's redemptive heart and purpose.

But when you come to the book of Exodus, where God's people are in bondage, they're enslaved in Egypt, and God delivers them,

you find, I think, one of the most powerful and profound pictures of God's redemptive heart.

to the people, wherefore say under the children of Israel, I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the
