Father, what a tremendous privilege to sing with these brothers.

Such glorious reality.

So thank you. And I ask now for your help in penetrating

into what you mean for us to understand and to become through this portion of your word.

Guard me from sin and error and pride and self-consciousness and free us all to stand before you and hear your voice.

Come, do your heart turning work in these few minutes I pray.

In Jesus' name, amen.

So when I read a story in the Old Testament, I want to read it on its own terms and not take my ideas from other parts of the Bible and force those ideas onto the story,

no matter how true they are.

And since I believe the whole Bible is the word of God, I find it thrilling to see a main point in an Old Testament story, see how the New Testament

lays hold on that point and then brings it all the way over into 21st century London and so that's what

I've enjoyed doing in my preparation for this.

Seeing that point, and this is what I want you to see.

I want to see the point of this story that was just read to you,

how the New Testament picks it up,

and then how it makes a difference in your life here in London.

So let's walk through the text together and see if we can discern

together the main point and I don't mean to imply that a story in the Bible only has one point. I think every story has a main point that

everything else is serving, but I don't think that's the only thing you

can learn from a story because that's not the way the Bible handles the Bible.
