I love these two verses in Amos and I want to encourage you us with them on two levels.

One, the picture in verse 11 is God promising that he's going to raise up and repair and rebuild

his people. Another R word that comes to mind that we don't see in Amos 9, 11, but I think

captures the whole picture is God redeems. God takes that which is broken and he repairs it.

God takes that which is torn down and he rebuilds it. I just want to encourage you in your life

today as you look at any brokenness in you or around you as you look at situations that

cause you to think, can this ever be repaired? Can this ever be rebuilt? Can this ever be redeemed?

I just want to encourage you that the God we worship, the God we're about to pray to is the

Redeemer. He's the Rebuilder. He's the Repairer and obviously I don't know the specific circumstances

that come to your mind when you think about that and I can't promise that this or that specifically

will be rebuilt or repaired, but I can promise you this based on the word of God that we see all

over scripture. He is able to take that which the adversary intends for evil and turn it for good.

He is able and he will be faithful to work all things together for the good of those who love

him and who've been called according to his purpose. God is the Redeemer and the second thing is

he's not just our Redeemer. He's the Redeemer of the nations, verse 12, all the nations who are

called by my name. It's so interesting. You get to Acts 15 and when the nations, the Gentiles

are starting to come to faith in Jesus and there's a big discussion among the Church of Jerusalem

as they are asking, what do we do about this? James stands up and he quotes these verses,

Amos 9, 11 and 12 to say this is the plan and the purpose of God to bring the nations to himself,

to show himself as Redeemer among not just the Jewish people but among all the peoples of the earth.

So we pray, God, we praise you as the Redeemer, as the one who's able to take that which is broken
