No matter how hard you try to figure everything out, you will never be able to sort out all the things God is doing on your behalf, in the big picture, and the big long story that he's working on.

Hi, I'm Susie Larson. Welcome to God Impressions. You know, one of the great gifts of walking with God is that we get to speak with

0:22.2

him, and he speaks with us. He speaks through his word, through circumstances, people, through

impressions on our heart. May we never take for granted that we have God's ear and we get to

0:33.8

hear his voice. Here's my conversation with my friend, Dr. Lee Warren. Before we dig into the idea of making space for hope, I would just love to know just in your time with the Lord these days. What's he been impressing upon your heart? Yeah, I've been hanging out again in Ecclesiastes chapter 3 for a few days. I'm not sure how this is going to relate to what we're about to talk about, but it always seems to, doesn't it? Clesiastes 311, he has made everything beautiful

in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart, yet no one can fathom what God has

done from beginning to end. That's where I've been hanging out lately.

1:10.7

Say more about that. Well, it's just this idea that we think we figure everything out.

1:16.6

We use that left side of our brain to turn everything into a thing, into an object.

1:20.5

This is what this thing is. This is what this season is. It's what that period of time is.

1:24.0

It's what this person is. This relationship is who God is. And yet, when we integrate our nervous system and remember that we have two halves of our brain and the right side is all about context and big picture and backstory and hope and all that kind of stuff, we begin to remember that God's always doing something even when we can't see it, just like the story you just told with the lady who was already pregnant. So what he's saying is no matter how hard you try to figure everything out, you will never be able to sort out all the things God is doing on your behalf, in the big picture and the big long story that he's working on. And even in the realm of science where I work, like no matter how smart we get, we're never going to figure out all the things God's doing. And so it's just this faith that we can always know that there's more to the story

2:05.4

than we think we can see and put our hands on.

2:08.1

Boy, can you read that verse for me again?

2:10.5

Yeah, Ecclesiastes 311.

2:12.5

He has made everything beautiful in its time.

2:14.8

He has also set eternity in the human heart.

2:19.3

Yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

2:22.9

You know, I think that's going to be one of the most glorious realities in heaven after being

2:28.2

in awe of seeing Jesus face to face and seeing the Father and the Spirit of God and just, I mean,

2:33.8

the reunion, all of that is just going to be so amazing.

2:37.0

But I think what also is going to be amazing is the stories we get to hear.

2:40.7

I keep imagining in having all these movie theaters where you get to see, you know, what happened backstage with David's story or Moses' story or your story Lee, where you start to see the intersection of all these lives.
