Summary

With the historic election performance by Gov. Ron DeSantis in Florida, and Gov. Greg Abbott's crushing of Democratic darling Beto O'Rourke in Texas, will Republicans learn anything about governance and winning? If it's all about personality, then you can't clone these men. But if it's about a process, then there's hope for the future of the Republic. NOTE: Scott Ott's camera failed during this week's shoot, so he appears by audio only. So what I really wanted to talk about, we got into, which is the beauty of what happened in Texas and Florida and whether that is replicable beyond Texas and Florida.

0:12.6

I'm always a little reluctant to echo what somebody apparently did at the DeSantis victory celebration the other night.

0:18.9

People started chanting two more years

0:21.1

because they wanted to run for president. I think there's far too much focus on presidential

0:29.0

politics and it plays well in national media because media has national audience when I would

0:35.0

much rather see a guy like that continue to strive to make Florida great.

0:39.5

I'd love to see Greg Abbott.

0:40.9

But I know that we have to draw that, you know, the farm team for presidency is best developed among the governors.

And so it would be nice to get somebody like that who has some executive experience

0:53.4

and knowing how to deal

0:54.6

with the monster that is bureaucracy in doing that. I just, I don't want us in the, in the sadness

1:03.5

over what should have been an historic takeover of Congress. I mean, frankly, you've got a tailwind of high inflation, the

1:12.6

sense of a doomed economy. You've got the least popular president in the last, I think,

1:19.1

seven administrations. His approval rating was like at 41%. It was lower by far than almost anybody

1:25.7

else. And in those those years when you had an

1:29.9

unpopular president, even without a bad economy, you saw big chunks of transition in the House

1:35.5

of Representatives. You saw the Senate changing hands and things like that. And here, somehow,

1:41.5

I mean, Joe Biden is a genius in the sense that when he ran for office, he hid in his

1:45.9

basement. This time around, people wouldn't let him come to speak for them in their campaigns

1:51.8

in the states. And so Biden has figured out the, it was Charles Grosden's biography title,

1:59.0

which is how nice it would be if you weren't here.

2:01.8

And so he's figured out the magic of not being present.
