You may know that I was born and raised in Michigan. You do not know, at least I don't think,

that it was when I was in my early 20s before I ever traveled west of the Mississippi River.

The first time I did so was in 1987.

In 1987 I boarded a plane in Grand Rapids, Michigan and got off a plane at the Sea-Tac Airport in Washington.

Now since that first trip, I've been west of the Mississippi hundreds of times, have spent years living west of the Mississippi,

never owning a home, but being there month after month.

But most recently I have been west of the Mississippi over the past two weeks.

We started heading to the Seattle area after worship on August the 25th, and we returned to our home in Virginia last night.

Now what prompted the trip is that my oldest son got married on August 31st in the Seattle area and so now nine of our children have gotten

married and while we were away we were blessed with three more grandchildren

being born so we have 18 now with us and we have two
