Hi everybody.

This short segment is what we call for the good of the order.

It's something we used to do at the end of my sorority meetings, if you can believe that,

where someone would share something that they came across in the course of the week, a poem, a song lyric, a short story, that they found enormously helpful as they went about daily life.

And I wanted to pick up the thread because I am so often wowed by something I see in the world

that I want to bring back and hand off to you.

So every Friday we produce a short segment called for the good of the order.

Think of it like an audio greeting card, a thing to share with the people that you love around the country

who you don't get to see or talk to enough. A thing to discuss with the people you do see and talk to

on a more regular basis.

This is Kelly Corrigan Wonders from a little story I wrote a really long time ago that I just found in my

Clophis, my closet office that I made in Bozeman, where I staple gun to old wallpaper to the walls in a way that I find very

pleasing even though it could be like one step away from beautiful mind activity.

Anyway I was drifting around in here towards the end of the afternoon, looking at things.

I don't know, I think it's related to my mom and grief and just not really being able to focus and hoping that some sign or

symbol is going to pop up and tell me what to do next. And then I found this and

I think the last line really names how I feel right now. So here it is.

It is June. I just finished sixth grade. My mom and I are going to Avalon. It's

pigeon week at Mrs. Moran's house. The pigeons, which is the weird name they

gave themselves like they're a baseball team or a singing group, go down to the shore every year,

loaded with beach chairs, monogram towels, band a solace, backgammon sets, and vodka.
