Trevor Alton is here. Right? Trevor, what should people do if they just can't make the deadline tonight? Yeah, everybody's least favorite holiday, right? If you cannot make the deadline, you are going to want to get an extension. And that is pretty simple to do. You can do it right on the IRS website. It is just a box that you check that will give you an extra six months to file. But this is important. The money that you owe, even if you get a filing extension, that money is still due today. So you're either going to have to take your best estimate of what you owe, pay that today and then file later to see

how close you were. Or if you decide you don't pay today, you are risking getting hit with

penalties. Now there are some states that have been dealing with natural disasters, Florida, Georgia,

Alabama, North South Carolina. They've pushed back their deadlines to May 1st. There's some

other areas that LA wildfires, they get an extra six months and some some parts of the Midwest also have been pushed back to November, too.

So double-check the deadline. But for most Americans, 11.59 p.m. is when it's all due. All right. That's some good advice. So what are the new rules that people should be aware of this year? Yeah. So there's always some incremental changes. is one that we actually think people are going to like, which is not something that we say a lot with taxes, is that they've been rolling out this thing called direct file. So this is a free service. It's through the IRS. You can file your taxes. You can pay them off. It's very straightforward. This is only available, though, in 25 states. You have to look up to see if you qualify if you do. If it's your state, that could really help you out, especially under a tight deadline today.

We also have some news for people who have maybe a side hustle. If you've made $5,000 through a payment

app, Venmo, cash app, things like that, or on an online marketplace like Etsy or eBay,

you're going to have to report that profit. Those companies should have sent you a 1099K.
