Now from Times Square, here's what you need to know. There's a new study that looks at the use of weight

loss drugs and an uptick of thyroid cancer diagnoses. What do we need to know here? Yeah, this is a part of an

ongoing conversation that we have in call rooms in the hospital regarding the relationship

between GOP medications, the active ingredient, OZempic-Wago be arguably the most popular weight loss

medications right now and the risk of thyroid cancer. In this study, it's quite a large one.

Over 300,000 participants, they compare those who use these GLP products to those who don't.

And there was some interesting and standout findings. For example, in the first year of use,

they saw an increased rate in the diagnosis of thyroid cancer.

And then in subsequent years, too, and so on and so forth, that rate returned back to

what is the average risk for the average person.

And overall, there was no difference between those who used GLP products in terms of the

risk of thyroid cancer and those who didn't.

Now, why is that increased risk in that first year?

Well, authors think that there

might be a reason. Reason why is because there is FDA warnings on these products, therefore,

more likely for doctors, nurse practitioners who are prescribing it to test for these things,

and then therefore more likely for these patients to get that diagnosis.
