impersonation scams. Stephanie has been following this story for us. What can you tell us this

afternoon? Yes. So the FTC is sharing some eye-opening information about impersonation scams

and just how much money Americans are losing.

These are the scams where someone pretends to be from your bank or a government agency warning you about some fake issue with your account and then tricks you into handing over money or personal information.

Last year alone, Americans lost about $445 million. That is a huge jump from 2020 when losses were just about $55 million.

I know I've almost fallen for these.

Those toll ones almost get me every time.

Yes.

So what can people do to protect themselves?

So the FTC is out with a couple of tricks and tips, and this is because scammers are so convincing these days.

So the first tip is don't move money to quote unquote protect it.

That's a red flag.
