Back in 2017, General Motors rolled out a new model that some hailed as the

car of the future. Introducing the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV. All electric. All aboard. Yep, the Bolt.

It was GM's first electric vehicle to be sold in all 50 states.

And though sales started off slow, they didn't stay that way.

Thanks to a significant price cut in 2022, U.S. sales of the Bolt were up more than 50% last year.

And this year, GM is expected to produce 70,000 units. You know, the bolt has a lot going for it. It's sleek, small, and the most affordable EV on the market. And it brought new

customers into GM's fold. 75% of bolt owners made the switch from non-GM vehicles, according to

CNBC.

So why oh why has GM announced it'll be shutting down production of the bolt by the end of this year?

Turns out GM has other things on its mind.
