And in stock market history, October 29th is a date of undisputed significance.

On this day, 96 years ago, desperate investors dumped a staggering 16 million shares on the

It was a new record for trading volume that would stand for nearly 40 years.

Billions of dollars were wiped out, life savings were destroyed, and wealthy industrialists,

as well as ordinary citizens, were decimated by what was declared Black Tuesday.

And that was the cause of the Great Depression, but certainly what sparked it.
